Week 5: Lust and Pornography

Week 5: Lust and Pornography.

For this week’s discussion, we will be working through Chapters 5 and 6 of The Great Sex Rescue.

Discussion Questions

  1. Why do you think women are so often omitted from the evangelical conversation around lust and porn?
  2. Have you heard that women should have frequent sex to stop their husbands from using porn? What about the message “all men struggle with lust; it is every man’s battle?” If you have heard these before, where did you hear them?
  3. Many books have told couples that the main weapon they have to fight sexual sin is simply frequent sex. Why do you think this has been the go-to, especially when porn use generally predates the marriage?
  4. Have you seen the “women are methadone” mentality play out in a marriage or a church culture? How did it affect the women? How did it affect the men?
  5. We believe that both men and women were created in the image of God and that men are not born unable to ward off sexual sin. How can we encourage the church to offer a message of hope and transformation to both the men and women struggling with sexual sin in the congregation?
  6. Do you know of any good resources, therapists, or other avenues of help who deal with sexual sin in a healthy way? Can you share it with the group in case anyone else is looking for something helpful?
